When North Korea announced that it would not attend the Tokyo Olympics due to Corona 19, the Japanese government was embarrassed.

While the interpretation of political intentions is divided, the possibility of spreading the’non-participation’ movement to other countries cannot be ruled out.

The Japanese government said the situation is being watched over North Korea’s full-blown declaration of absence from the Tokyo Olympics.

Whether or not to participate in the competition is a matter of priority adjustment by the International Olympic Committee and the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee.

However, it is a painful issue for the Japanese government that North Korea mentioned Corona 19 as a reason for not attending the Olympics.

This is because the vaccine is spreading, but as the spread of the vaccine becomes more evident around the world, such as the United States and Europe, more countries may say they are not willing to attend.

As North Korea publicly announced its absence, Japan’s initiative to improve relations, such as solving the abduction of Japanese citizens, has become difficult to realize in the wake of the Olympics.

On the day the Tokyo Olympic torch departs, North Korea fired a ballistic missile, but Prime Minister Suga was still hoping for a dialogue.

On the day that North Korea declared it absent from the Olympics, the Japanese government decided to extend independent sanctions against North Korea by two years, including a full ban on trade.

It was decided to continue sanctions, which began in 2006, because the North Korean nuclear and missile issues are not improving.

The Japanese government is in a position to respond independently to North Korea’s participation in the Olympics to resolve the kidnapping issue.

However, it is unlikely that North Korea, which has given up on the serious diplomatic stage of the Olympics by itself, will show a forward-looking attitude to Japan.
