[국제]Japanese Prime Minister Suga, “Review of Emergency Declaration…Vaccination begins at the end of February”

Japan’s Prime Minister Suga said he would review the declaration of emergency in four metropolitan local governments, including Tokyo, where the infection is spreading significantly.

At a New Year’s press conference held this morning, Prime Minister Suga asked four local governments in the metropolitan area, including Tokyo, to shorten the business hours of restaurants, etc. to 8:00 pm, and said that the government would also begin reviewing the declaration of emergency.

Japanese media such as NHK predicted that Prime Minister Suga would go through expert meetings and declare an emergency within this week targeting four local governments: Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba, and Kanagawa.

Prime Minister Suga said that experts pointed out that a large number of infections with unknown routes are occurring mainly in restaurants, and emphasized the importance of reducing dinners during the evening and shortening business hours.

Regarding vaccination, Prime Minister Suga said that the government is preparing to start vaccination starting from the end of next month, starting with medical workers and the elderly, and that he will take the initiative to get the vaccine.

In addition, it has been implementing immigration deregulation measures, such as exempting quarantine from short-term residents for business purposes, but he explained that it will immediately stop such measures in countries where the COVID-19 mutant virus has been found.

He added that medical sites in areas with a large number of infections, such as Tokyo, are in a very dangerous situation, and that they will not hesitate to send the self-defense force medical staff if necessary.

Prime Minister Suga said that although there are many meetings such as the New Year’s party, in order to overcome the current crisis, cooperation from the people is essential, such as refraining from going out unnecessary.
