[국제]Japanese Prime Minister Suga declares an emergency…for a month in four metropolitan areas including Tokyo

Amid the rapid spread of Corona 19, Japanese Prime Minister Suga declared an emergency in Tokyo and other metropolitan areas.

Prime Minister Suga recently held a meeting of the government’s countermeasures headquarters and declared an emergency in four regions including Tokyo based on the Special Measures Act, saying that corona infection is rapidly spreading nationwide.

Accordingly, detailed measures such as shortening the sales of restaurants, etc. and restrictions on large-scale events will be implemented from tomorrow (8th).

Local governments, including Tokyo, are asking residents to refrain from going out after 8 pm, and recommending companies to reduce the number of attendance to work by up to 70% by expanding telecommuting.

However, we decided not to take measures such as closing schools nationwide as in the case of an emergency last year, and to proceed with the university entrance exam as scheduled.

In addition, in order to block the influx of mutant viruses, etc. from outside during an emergency, entry regulations are expected to be strengthened, such as stopping new entry of foreigners.

It is expected that the’business track’, which has allowed traffic for business purposes to Korea and China, along with quarantine exemption measures, will also be suspended.

Japan declared its first emergency in history targeting seven local governments including Tokyo on April 7, last year due to the spread of Corona 19, and expanded to the whole country on the 16th.

At that time, as a follow-up measure in response to an emergency, schools across the country were closed at the same time, and many businesses including large commercial facilities, event venues, academies, and sports facilities were closed and shortened their operations.

After the spread of infection subsided, the Japanese government lifted the emergency situation in 39 local governments in Japan on May 14 last year and lifted it all over the country on the 25th.
