[국제]Japanese Prime Minister Suga declares an emergency…for a month in four metropolitan areas including Tokyo

Amid the rapid spread of Corona 19, Japanese Prime Minister Suga declared an emergency in Tokyo and other metropolitan areas.

Prime Minister Suga held a meeting of the government’s countermeasures headquarters and announced that the corona infection was rapidly spreading nationwide, and announced that it would declare an emergency situation in four regions, including Tokyo, by the 7th of next month based on the Special Measures Act.

At the press conference that followed, Prime Minister Suga appealed to the younger generation to actively cooperate in corona prevention measures for this purpose, saying that he will do his best to improve the situation in the next month.

Accordingly, business hours will be shortened from tomorrow (the 8th) to 8:00 pm for restaurants, and the capacity for large-scale events will be limited to the existing 50% level.

In addition, each local government will request residents to refrain from going out after 8 pm, and recommend that companies, etc., increase their work from home and reduce the number of attendance by 70%.

Japan declared its first emergency in history targeting seven local governments including Tokyo on April 7, last year due to the spread of Corona 19, and expanded to the whole country on the 16th.

At that time, as a follow-up measure in response to an emergency, schools across the country were closed at the same time, and many businesses including large commercial facilities, event venues, academies, and sports facilities were closed and shortened their operations.

After the spread of infection subsided, the Japanese government lifted the emergency situation in 39 local governments in Japan on May 14 last year and lifted it all over the country on the 25th.
