[국제]International human rights group “China is a human rights oppressor… Beijing Olympic boycott”

A coalition of international human rights groups criticized China’s human rights abuses and called for a boycott of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

On the 3rd, according to CNN and sports media ESPN, a coalition of more than 180 international human rights organizations delivered an open letter to the world’s heads of state asking for a boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics. Earlier, US senators issued a resolution opposing China’s hosting of the Olympic Games, saying,’A country that respects human rights should hold the Olympics’ and demanded not to attend the Beijing Winter Olympics.

In a letter, the International Federation of Human Rights Organizations said in a letter, “The Olympics should not be used as a means to strengthen the Chinese government’s terrible abuse of rights and crackdown on protesters.” He added, “Now it is up to each government to show its political will to oppose China’s human rights crackdown.”

The Federation of Human Rights Organizations previously requested the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to deprive China of the right to host the Olympics, but the IOC rejected the deprivation of the right to hold the event, saying, “We are a sports organization not involved in politics.”

China has been criticized by international human rights groups for suspicion of repression against the Xinjiang Uighurs and Tibet and the enactment of the Hong Kong security law. Last week, US Secretary of State Anthony Brecken reiterated the human rights issue in China on the first day of his inauguration, saying “the genocide is still repeated in Xinjiang Uyghur.”

However, China revealed an unpleasant intent, saying, “The boycott demand is a politicization of sports and corresponds to interference in internal affairs.” One Chinese official said, “The suspicion of massacre of the Xinjiang Uyghurs is not true,” and argued that “this is a lie of the century.”

The issue of the Xinjiang Uyghur concentration camp has been raised since 2018. According to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, China has detained up to 1 million people, up to 10% of all Muslim minorities in the region since 2017, in more than 1,000 camps without trial.
