[국제]Biden Government, “Comprehensive Inspection of Supply Chain” for Vehicle Semiconductor Shortage

[앵커]

Joe Biden’s U.S. administration will soon sign an executive order that will comprehensively examine supply chain issues related to the semiconductor shortage that has hit the global automotive industry.

There is also a level of actively responding to global issues to restore global leadership, but there seems to be an intention to support the US automobile and semiconductor industry, which is experiencing a crisis.

This is a report from Washington correspondent Taewook Kang.

On the 9th, GM of the United States extended production cuts at three plants in North America until mid-next month.

The second plant in Bupyeong in Korea and two other plants in North America are already in partial operation.

This is due to the shortage of automotive semiconductors that are experiencing worldwide.

As the demand for automobiles declined due to the Corona 19 outbreak, what the production of automotive semiconductors gave is having an adverse effect now as demand is recovering.

The Biden administration explained that it was looking for potential bottlenecks in the supply chain accordingly.

In addition, we will find not only an immediate solution, but also a long-term strategy.

It announced that it will soon sign an executive order that will comprehensively check the matter.

In this regard, the US semiconductor industry, such as Intel and Qualcomm, whose global share has been reduced to 12%, requested financial support.

However, even with financial support to the US industry, the White House knows that the latest semiconductor supply will be led by Asia for up to five years.

In addition, it is analyzed that global vehicle production this year will decrease to around one million units, so damage to the auto industry is inevitable right away.
