[국제]AstraZeneca vaccine is recommended by countries under the age of 65

[앵커]

A growing number of European countries are refusing to vaccinate the elderly against AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine.

In the meantime, the UK and Italy announced the results of safety assessments on vaccines currently being vaccinated.

Let’s find out by connecting reporters. Reporter Kim Jeong-hoe!

First, let’s look at the news of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Was there a country that says not to vaccination for the elderly?

[기자]

It was the Netherlands who declared to join the ranks.

The Dutch Health Council, the Dutch government scientific advisory body, sent a letter to the Minister of Health, stating that AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine should not be given to people aged 65 or older.

I heard it because there were fewer clinicians over the age of 56.

They explained that fewer people over 65 years of age are unable to fully determine the effectiveness of the vaccine for older people.

He stressed that the immune system works less effectively with age, which seems to point to the fact that the clinical results for older people should have been clear.

Prior to the Netherlands, there are not a few countries except for the elderly vaccination of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

[기자]

First of all, if you look at what foreign media reported up to the last 4 days, there were six countries that recommend AstraZeneca vaccination only to those under the age of 65.

Germany, France, Austria, Sweden, Ireland, Norway, etc.

The Netherlands was added today, so it has become 7 countries.

In other countries, the age range for vaccination is jagged.

Finland is under 70, Poland is under 60, and Belgium is under 55.

On the other hand, Switzerland has pending approval of the AstraZeneca vaccine, claiming that the submitted data are insufficient.

The UK, India, Mexico, and Argentina have approved the use of the vaccine to all adults.

The problem is that the European Union on the 29th of last month approved the conditional sale of the AstraZeneca vaccine to all adults over the age of 18 in accordance with the recommendation of the European Medicines Agency, and then refused or withholding vaccinations for the elderly.

As the European Medicines Agency said at the time of recommendation, there was no data to explain how well the AstraZeneca vaccine would work in people over 55 years of age.

Therefore, in a situation where the shortage of vaccines intensifies, expectation of general data from pharmaceutical companies. The European Drug Administration seems to have made recommendations for use at that time. It’s possible.

The results of an additional safety evaluation at the vaccination country level, not the pharmaceutical company, for the vaccine currently being vaccinated came out.

Was it the result of being safe?

[기자]

First, the results of the safety analysis of the UK’s Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines indicate that it is safe.

The study was undertaken by the UK Drug and Health Care Products Regulatory Authority and involved 7 million people vaccinated by the 24th of last month.

Most of the vaccinators received the Pfizer vaccine.

This seems to be because Pfizer first approved the use.

Suspected side effects were 3 out of 1,000, usually muscle pain, fever, and pain at the injection site.

Some allergic reactions also appeared, but 1 to 2 people per 100,000 people.

However, there have been no serious side effects, and there is evidence that the vaccine prevents serious symptoms related to COVID-19, the agency explained.

Italy has evaluated the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, which are also reported to be safe.

According to the data released by the Italian Medicines Agency, from December 27 of last year to the 26th of last month, the side effects of vaccination cases were 0.47%.

Pfizer 99% and Modena 1% analysis, which is also due to Modena being used since the middle of last month.

Of the total side effects, 92.4% were pain at the vaccination site, fever, and muscle pain, and serious side effects were 7.6%, of which 3/4 of them did not require hospital treatment.
