In Scotland, UK, where the world’s first AstraZeneca vaccine and Pfizer vaccine were launched, we investigated how effective these vaccines are in preventing severe COVID-19.

From December 8th last year to 15th this month, more than 8,000 people were hospitalized due to worsening corona19 symptoms.

Of these, only 58 patients had passed 4 weeks after the first vaccination.

It is said that four weeks after the first vaccination, the immunity improves, and the likelihood of a severe worsening decreases.

Based on these results, the research team found that four weeks after the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, the risk of severe exacerbation of Corona 19 was reduced by 94%.

The Pfizer vaccine had a lower severe prevention rate of 85%.

Both vaccines showed high preventive effect even in the elderly over the age of 80, and it was found that hospital admissions were reduced to 81%.

In particular, in the case of the AstraZeneca vaccine, only two patients were in their 80s or older four weeks after the first vaccination.

The Scottish study did not include the vaccine’s prevention of COVID-19 transmission and duration of immunity.
