In an interview with the Sunday Times, Pascal Sorio, CEO of AstraZeneca, a multinational pharmaceutical company based in London, UK, said in an interview with the Sunday Times, “we have found a formula for success that can benefit from two doses of the vaccine.”

The reason why CEO Sorio emphasized the’success formula’ is that the immunity effect was different depending on the dosage as a result of an interim analysis of the vaccine’s phase 3 clinical trial.

When the original vaccine was administered twice, the prevention rate was only 62.1%, but when half the dose was administered from the first vaccination due to a mistake in the experimental process, the prevention rate sharply increased to 90.0%.

Due to the variation in dosage, the efficacy was questioned, and clinical trials in the United States were discontinued for 7 weeks.

CEO Sorio said he was surprised when he first discovered that the effectiveness of the vaccine was different depending on the dosage, and “I expected people to be disappointed.”

However, he said, “We evaluated the efficacy positively because it met the standards set by health authorities around the world.”

In an interview conducted with burns at his home in Sydney, Australia, he was confident that “it can be 100% prevented” of COVID-19 infection, which is severe enough to require hospitalization.

AstraZeneca vaccine has advantages in terms of transportation and distribution because it is cheaper than other vaccines such as Pfizer and can be stored in a general refrigerator.

Therefore, some observers say that if approved by the British authorities, the Pfizer vaccine will be distributed faster than the already vaccinated Pfizer vaccine.

The Korean government, which is lagging behind in securing vaccines compared to other countries in the world such as the United States and Europe, has signed a 20 million dose contract with AstraZeneca, so it is closely watching the UK’s approval decision and vaccination plan.
