After Yoshiro Mori, the chairman of the organizing committee of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, spoke deprecating women, 390 Olympic volunteers
It is reported that he has announced his intention to resign.

Japanese media such as NHK reported that about 390 volunteers at the tournament resigned after Mori made a demeaning remark to the effect that “a board of directors with many women takes a long time.”

The organizing committee hired about 80,000 volunteers working in stadiums and athletes’ villages ahead of the tournament, but 390 people announced their intention to resign between February 4th and 8th noon after Mori made a demeaning remark. During the same period, more than 4,000 protest calls and emails were delivered to the organizing committee’s call center. The organizing committee did not announce the number of volunteers who resigned even when the Corona 19 spread, but recently announced this as a number of resignations emerged in Tokyo.

According to the Mainichi newspaper, the Olympic sponsor companies that participated in the online meeting held by the organizing committee on the 8th also expressed regret for Chairman Mori’s remarks, saying that it was “a remark that deviated from the Olympic ideology.”

As the controversy spread, the organizing committee decided to hold a joint meeting with directors and councilors on the 12th to discuss countermeasures. The organizing committee said, “There is no disruption in the operation of the competition due to the resignation of the volunteers,” but said, “I apologize once again to those who felt discomfort.”

On the 4th, Chairman Mori held a press conference on the date of the controversy with his remarks and apologized for “it was inappropriate.” But at the same time, he drew a line saying, “I have no intention of resigning for this job.”
