Due to the recent global pandemic of Corona 19 and climate change, ESG (environmental, social, governance) management, which emphasizes the value of sustainable growth across society, economy, and finance, is emerging as a key keyword of social responsibility management. Accordingly, Korea Asset Management Corporation (KAMCO) established the’Main Business ESG Transformation’ subcommittee in the’Corona Crisis Overcome Committee for Leading New Normal Post Corona’, chaired by President Sung-yu Moon, last year, to invest in ESG standards, manage major businesses, and management. It was decided to quickly reflect in the field.

Korea Asset Management Corporation (Camco)

President Moon said at the first’Corona Crisis Overcome Committee for New Normal Post Corona Leadership’ held in January, “We are leading the post-corona era through the transition of major business ESG, and implementing and implementing plans rather than establishing plans or strategies. We will focus on our company-wide capabilities.” He showed a firm commitment to ESG management.

Accordingly, Camco established the’Camco ESG Guidelines’ to practice ESG management, and for detailed implementation, the target companies and ship funds of Camco’s corporate support programs such as Asset Purchase and Lease Back (Sale & Lease Back) and DIP Finance. Eco-friendly evaluation contents have been newly introduced in the screening items for selecting companies to take over ships through.

When evaluating the selection of a company for the corporate support program, environmental items such as clean technology and energy efficiency are added, and support for social complaints such as embezzlement of funds and arrears of taxes (excluding delay in disposition for arrears), etc. Support for companies was blocked in advance.

In addition, Camco added’whether to comply with IMO environmental regulations’ and’Marine pollution risk of ships’ as evaluation items and detailed evaluation criteria for the possibility of occurrence of marine environment issues when deliberating on ship acceptance by domestic shipping companies. This is to proactively respond to the recently strengthened international maritime organization (IMO) global marine environmental regulations, and provides priority to shipping companies that comply with environmental regulations.

In addition, Kamco is leading the Green New Deal by introducing the’Zero Energy Building’ construction in national and public land development projects to support the government’s carbon neutral policy, and inducing active participation from the private sector.

The development of the’Sejong National Research Complex No. 2 Research Complex’ is promoted as a leading zero-energy building project. Completed in 2026, this building is the first large public building in Korea to cover 60-80% of the total energy consumption with renewable energy such as solar power.

In addition, the building of the old Southeast Regional Statistics Office in Yeonje-gu, Busan, an aging state-owned property, will be developed as a Busan Youth Startup Hub, an innovative startup space, by developing a green remodeling method using high-performance insulation and new renewable energy. This process is expected to reduce energy consumption by about 48% and carbon emissions by about 53 tons.

In national and public land development projects, Camco uses eco-friendly technologies in various fields and strives to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and enhance energy performance in public buildings. In addition, in the existing approval projects, we are minimizing the impact of buildings on the environment through next-generation energy saving plans such as green building construction in accordance with the’Green Building Construction Support Act’ such as roof-integrated solar power and insulation improvement, and acquisition of building energy efficiency certification.
