Following Chuseok last year, the National Rights Commission temporarily increased the maximum amount of gifts for agricultural, livestock, and fishery products allowed to public officials related to duties during the Lunar New Year holidays from 100,000 won to 200,000 won.

The related industry immediately welcomed it, and the distribution industry, which prepared an expensive gift set of close to 200,000 won, was also antagonistic.

Ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, the National Rights Commission voted on an amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Solicitation Ban Act, which would raise the maximum amount of agricultural, livestock, and seafood gifts that public officials can receive to 200,000 won.

The solicitation ban currently allows the maximum amount of futures for agricultural, livestock, and fishery products up to 100,000 won, which is temporarily raised.

The purpose of this is to help related industries that are struggling with the prolonged Corona 19 and to activate domestic demand.

Related industries such as the Federation of Korean Fisheries Industries and the National Korean Beef Association made statements one after another and expressed their positive welcome, saying that they accepted the grievances of the industry.

Distributors who have been preparing gift sets close to 200,000 won were also pleased.

Lotte Department Store prepared livestock Korean beef sets and red ginseng products that range from 180,000 won to 200,000 won.

Shinsegae Department Store also increased the proportion of products worth 100,000 won or more by 20% compared to New Year’s Day last year, and Hyundai Department Store plans to increase the volume of 50 products, which are around 100,000 won among meat, gulbi, and fruit, by 10%.

Aehyung marts also prepared products from 100,000 won to 200,000 won by increasing both types and quantities compared to the Lunar New Year holidays last year.

The amendment will be implemented after a resolution of the Cabinet Meeting on the 19th and will be applied until the 14th of the month following the end of the Lunar New Year holiday.
