[경제]LG Electronics sells smartphone business in place…

[앵커]

LG Electronics is expected to conclude on the 5th of next week whether it will completely leave its hands on the smartphone business, which has not escaped from the chronic deficit of KRW 5 trillion.

Although they have attempted to sell the smartphone business overseas, the observation that the possibility of withdrawal from the business has increased as it has been in a steady state is predominant.

This is the first rollable phone that LG Electronics unveiled at the US consumer electronics and IT exhibition, CES in January of this year.

This smartphone, with its magically curled screen spreading smoothly, was expected to be released this year, but it was virtually lost.

Immediately after this event, LG Electronics announced that it would review all possibilities, including the sale of its mobile business.

LG Electronics has been in contact with Vietnamese and German companies for the sale of its mobile business, but it is reported that it has failed to achieve such results.

Therefore, it is expected that the board of directors on the 5th will take the lead with the withdrawal of the mobile business and begin large-scale relocation of 3,700 people.

Instead, it is expected that LG Electronics will focus on the electric vehicle and robot business in the era of electric vehicles.

The mobile business has accumulated an operating deficit of 5 trillion won for 6 consecutive years since 2015, and has been called LG’s representative’sick finger’.

An official from LG Electronics said that at this board of directors, all possibilities will be opened and reviewed, and there has been no decision yet.

When LG Electronics transforms its business structure, its business performance will be further improved.

However, there are concerns that Samsung Electronics’ soloism will inevitably reduce the choice of consumers and the ecosystem of the small and medium-sized parts industry will also be shaken.
