The International Monetary Fund and the IMF raised their forecast for this year’s economic growth by 0.5 percentage points in two months.
The IMF recommended maintaining an expanding macro-policy stance until the signs of an economic recovery become clear.

After annual consultations with the fiscal and monetary authorities, the IMF has revised up our economic growth prospects this year.
In January, the forecast for growth of 3.1% was raised by 0.5 percentage points in just two months, and it is expected to grow by 3.6%.
This is higher than the government’s estimate of 3.2% and the Bank of Korea, OECD, and KDI estimates.
The IMF said it reflected the increase in exports and investment following the economic recovery in major countries, and an additional budget of 15 trillion won.
On the other hand, he pointed out that the service sector and consumption are insufficient, and the employment sector is still significantly lower than before the coronavirus.
The IMF recommended maintaining an expanding macro-policy stance until the signs of an economic recovery become clear.
He advised that it is necessary to provide selective support for the victims through additional financial expansion.
Regarding monetary policy, it was diagnosed that a more relaxed monetary policy would contribute to solidifying the economic recovery in the future and operating inflation closer to the inflation target.
He recommended that if household debt continues to increase, it is necessary to strengthen regulations.
The Ministry of Strategy and Finance stressed that the IMF’s evaluation means that our economy is one of the strongest and fastest recovering leading group countries in the coronavirus crisis.
