Eight conglomerates, including Samsung, Hyundai, and LG, have decided to open the right to operate group meals that have been monopolized by affiliates and relatives.

With this decision, even small and medium-sized companies will be able to challenge the large-scale corporate catering market worth 1.2 trillion won.

The chairman of the Fair Trade Commission and representatives of 8 major domestic companies gathered together.

It was declared to open the right to operate group meals at workplaces, which had been monopolized by affiliates of large corporations, to the market.

The total group meal market in Korea is about KRW 4.3 trillion.

Among them, 80% of the top five companies, including affiliates and relatives of large domestic companies, account for 80%.

In particular, the size of private contracts signed by these companies through internal transactions with their affiliates is about 1.2 trillion won, and we decided to change this to an open bidding method.

Participating companies decided to gradually expand their scope after opening their work centers around small facilities such as dormitories and research institutes.

Representatively, from next year, LG decided to open the cafeteria in turn, with 40 million meals, and CJ decided to select more than 65% as an open bidding method.

In addition, in the process of selecting a business, we decided to review win-win measures, such as prioritizing small and medium-sized food service providers in the region.

The Fair Trade Commission plans to accelerate the improvement of internal trading practices so that this voluntary opening of work can be carried out in various fields as well as one-off.
