Due to the shortage of automotive semiconductors, automakers around the world have been shut down one after another, and domestic production has also begun to be affected.

It is pointed out that if this does not happen again, it is necessary to increase the production of automotive semiconductors in Korea.

Earlier, major global automakers such as Volkswagen, Audi, Ford, and Toyota have also cut or stopped production.

Hyundai Motor Company and Kia are not disrupting production right away, but they are closely watching the possibility of a prolonged shortage of semiconductors.

According to market research firms, global automobile production in the first quarter of this year is expected to decrease by 672,000 units than expected, and the aftermath is expected to occur by the third quarter.

This is because automotive semiconductors are experiencing a shortage of supply and demand worldwide.

It is analyzed that this is because the demand for automobiles, which had decreased significantly due to the impact of Corona 19, recovered faster than expected, and the proportion of production was not high due to lower profits than other industrial semiconductors.

Most finished cars produced in Korea rely on imported semiconductors, so whenever there is a shortage of supply, they are bound to be affected.

Therefore, it is pointed out that now is the time to intensively nurture the domestic industrial semiconductor base.

Although there are 2 to 300 semiconductors used in internal combustion engines, up to 2,000 autonomous vehicles will be used in the future.

The automotive semiconductor market is expected to grow by more than 50% in five years from $41.8 billion in 2019.
