According to the annual employment trend analysis released by the National Statistical Office, the number of employed employees per year last year was 26.94,000, down 218,000 from the previous year.

This is the largest decline since 1998 during the past financial crisis.

In particular, in December last year, when the damage was severe due to the third spread, the number of employed decreased by 628,000 from the same period last year, showing a decline for 10 consecutive months, which is also the longest period since the financial crisis.

By age group, the number of employed decreased in all age groups except for those in their 60s, and temporary and daily jobs were hit hard, mainly in the service industry, where the proportion of face-to-face work was high.

It was found that the number of temporary leavers per year exceeded 800,000, increasing unprecedentedly.

Last year, the number of unemployed people increased by 45,000 from the previous year to 1.18,000, the highest since 2000, when the statistical standards were changed.

The employment rate also fell 0.8 percentage points to 60.1%, the lowest since 2013.

The National Statistical Office said that due to the spread of Corona 19, the number of employed has decreased, mainly in face-to-face services such as accommodation, wholesale and retail, and education.

In particular, it was predicted that this year’s situation will also be affected by the trend of the number of confirmed cases, saying that the employment shock has expanded again due to the third spread.
