Q. Is the special law exempted from the feasibility study?
A. No. The special law stipulates that the preliminary feasibility study can be exempted if necessary (Article 7). Although there was a provision of’Sata Simplification’ in the original bill, the simplification clause was omitted during the discussions of the National Assembly, so the Sata decided to proceed according to the opinions of the Ministry of Information and Infrastructure.
Q. Can you change your position to a place other than Gadukdo?
A. Yes. The special law was nailed to the airport (Article 2) to be built in the area of Gadeok-do, Gangseo-gu, Busan. The new airport in the southeast region was defined as an airport built on Gadeok Island. Gimhae, Miryang, and Gadeok-do were left out of the 35 regions in the Yeongnam area, but both Gimhae and Miryang received failing points in terms of safety and economics due to the large number of obstacles (mountains) on the entry surface. Eventually, it was confirmed that there was no alternative to Gadeokdo Island, and the Gaduk Special Law was born without a separate location selection procedure.
Q. When will Gaduk New Airport open?
A.The goal is to be completed before December 2029. Although the special law did not specify the time of completion, Article 1 (Purpose Regulations) stated that’prompt construction’ was specified as the reason for enacting the law.

Q. Isn’t Gadeokdo vulnerable to natural disasters such as typhoons?
A. There is an inflated side. According to the Meteorological Administration, there have been five typhoons that have affected Gadeokdo Island in the last 10 years. The typhoon doesn’t just pass through Gadeokdo Island. The typhoon also passes over Gimhae Airport. Gadeok New Airport is planned to be built 40m above sea level. Japan’s Kansai Airport, which is often mobilized in the Gadeok New Airport, due to a typhoon flooding accident, was built 5m above sea level.
Q. Is there a risk of a collision between a ship and an aircraft passing off the coast of Gadeokdo Island?
A. You have found the height and direction of the runway to avoid the ship. You don’t have to worry too much. Even if the simulation is performed in the worst case scenario considering the situation with the lowest aircraft and the highest ship (unloaded state), the height of the ship and the aircraft differs by more than 70m.
Q. I have Incheon International Airport, do I need a gateway airport again?
A.By 2056, the international passenger demand for Boulgyeong will reach 46 million. The international cargo demand reaches 990,000 tons. Incheon Airport alone cannot meet the demand.
Q. How is the expansion of Gimhae Airport?
A. When the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announces the 6th comprehensive airport development plan in the first half of this year, which divides the roles of Gadeok New Airport and Gimhae Airport, a concrete picture will come out. The division of roles with Gimpo Airport was confirmed only four years before Incheon Airport opened its port. Currently, Incheon and Gimpo Airport models are influential. It is highly likely that the military airport facilities at Gimhae Airport will remain intact.
