Representatives of survivors and families of the Cheonan ship incident visited the Blue House on the 6th and requested an interview with President Moon Jae-in.

Lee Seong-woo, the father of the late Sergeant Lee Sang-hee of the Cheonan ship, and Min Gwang-gi, the elder brother of the late Sergeant Min Pyeong-ki, and former Cheonan Commander Choi Won-il met the executive officer of the Blue House Civil Society Chief Officer at the Yeonpung Hall of the Blue House on the morning of that day.

The bereaved side asked for an interview with President Moon, an investigation into the decision of the’Cheonan ship re-investigation’ by the Fact-Finding Committee, and punishment of officials.

Earlier, the Census Committee decided to start an investigation into the cause of death of the soldiers in the Cheonan incident at the end of last year by Shin Sang-cheol, a former civil-military joint investigator, who insisted that the’Cheonan ship’s ruined ground’ When it became known through the controversy, the decision was overturned.

After convening an emergency meeting on the 2nd, he rejected Shin’s petition, saying,’Shin does not meet the petition requirements set by the relevant laws.

In the end, the re-investigation was canceled due to the reversal of the committee’s decision, but the controversy has not subsided. Some fact-finding committee members say,’I didn’t know whether the Cheonan-related agenda was included at the time’, and several questions have been raised regarding Shin’s petition submitted to the Investigation Committee.

In addition, controversy arose as the Ministry of National Defense also revealed that it did not report to Defense Minister Seo-wook, even though it was served by the Investigation Committee last year for the decision to commence investigations related to the Cheonan.

In response, a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense BOO Seung-chan explained again in a regular briefing on the day that “there was a part where details could not be confirmed due to the fact that (the investigation committee decision) went to a department other than the relevant department.”
