Former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Kim Young-chun, together with the Democratic Party’s 4·7 Busan mayoral candidate, won a ticket for the final election.

On the 6th, the Democratic Party’s Central Party Election Commission announced the results of the election of candidates for the Busan Mayor at the Busan City Hall of the Democratic Party. Former Minister Kim was elected as the final candidate, defeating candidates Byun Sung-wan (25.12%) and Park In-young (7.14%) with a final vote rate of 67.74%. Former Minister Kim greatly outpaced the other candidates by winning 66.23% and 76.14%, respectively, in the opinion polls of the rights party and the general citizens, which are reflected by 50% each.
In his speech to accept the candidate’s acceptance, former Minister Kim said, “This by-election for the mayor of Busan will be held at the fault of the Democratic mayor. Once again, I apologize.” Former Minister Kim said, “This by-election is too unfavorable to the Democratic Party, but because the people’s power could not make an election to be elected even if they put a stake, I stood at the edge of the cliff.

Gadeok, the biggest policy topic in Busan, also brought out a new airport. Former Minister Kim said, “The Democratic Party passed the Gaduk New Airport Special Act just by being nominated for this election.” Former Minister Kim’s first pledge is the early completion of the new airport on Gadeok Island in 2029. He also announced that he had built his own ho (號) as’gadeok’.
Regarding the power of the people, “It is the mayor of the people’s power that has made the airport to the Southeast region that Busan citizens want, and brought the lost ten years to the Busan economy.” said. He said, “If I am elected, I will create 250,000 jobs every year by 2025 and achieve exports of 20 billion dollars.”
Democratic Party chief spokesman Choi In-ho, re-elected lawmaker Saha Gugap in Busan, said, “As Candidate Kim served as Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, he put Busan’s long-awaited North Port redevelopment project on the rock. It will play a lot of role in the process of being promoted.”
Born in Busan in 1962, former Minister Kim attended Seongji Elementary School in Busan, Gaeseong Middle School, and Busan-dong High School. After graduating from Korea University, he entered the Blue House in 1993 as the political secretary of President Kim Young-sam. He served as the 16th, 17th, and 20th legislator, and in the Moon Jae-in administration, he served as the first Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, and the secretary-general of the National Assembly after the opening of the 21st National Assembly.
