It was confirmed on the 21st that the ruling party tried to hold a meeting with platform conglomerates such as Naver and Kakao, but the companies showed a controversy and failed.

According to the Democratic Party of Korea on the 21st, the Democratic Party has held a meeting with the party’s working group, Naver Financial, Kakao Pay, Elegant Brothers (Baedal People’s Operator), and Riot Games (online game League of Legends). However, these companies were disapproved of their intention to refuse. It is known that companies are concerned that the democratic party’s profit-sharing system will be handled on the agenda of the meeting.

A Democratic Party official explained, “It was not recommended to participate in the profit-sharing system, but as a place to accurately grasp the situation of companies after Corona 19 and to listen to difficulties,” he said. “It seems that there was a burden from the corporate standpoint.”

An official from a platform company explained, “It is correct that the Democratic Party contacted me,” but explained that the reason for the rejection of the meeting was that “the Fair Commissioner’s visit was scheduled for tomorrow, so I can’t.”

The profit-sharing system is the idea of allowing industries or companies that enjoyed a relatively boom in the spread of infectious diseases to share profits with the affected sectors and classes. In the case of a booming industry voluntarily giving profits to the affected sectors and classes, the method of providing incentives is being examined inside the Democratic Party. On the 18th, President Moon Jae-in also said at a New Year’s press conference, “Let’s make a voluntary movement to help those affected by companies that make more money in the corona era.”

When meetings with companies such as Naver and Kakao were unsuccessful, the Democratic Party decided to meet with organizations belonging to major platform companies such as the Korea Fintech Industry Association, Internet Enterprise Association, and Korea Startup Forum on the 22nd to hear their position.
