President Moon said at the offshore wind farm investment agreement ceremony held at Imja Bridge in Sinan, Jeollanam-do, “We will shorten the project preparation period that takes more than five years to start construction of (offshore wind power plants) and enact a special law to provide collective support from location discovery to approval and permission.” Said this.

The world’s largest offshore wind farm, worth 48 trillion won, is expected to be built in Shinan, where the agreement ceremony was held on that day. Private power generation companies such as KEPCO, SK E&S, and Hanwha E&C and offshore wind power manufacturers such as Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, CS Wind and Samgang M&T will participate in the project. The power generation scale reaches 8.2GW, equivalent to eight nuclear power plants.

President Moon directly promoted the advantages of offshore wind power at the event, comparing it with nuclear power.

He said, “The offshore wind farm to be built off the coast of Shinan is seven times larger than the world’s largest offshore wind farm. “A huge amount that the home can use.” “The economic effect is also enormous,” said President Moon, and “by 2030, 48.500 trillion won of investment will be made and 120,000 jobs will be created.” He also presented a blueprint that “Mokpo will become the center of offshore wind power distribution, and large-scale offshore wind power facility manufacturing complexes will be built in Yeongam and Sinan.”

President Moon continued, “The world’s offshore wind power is growing by nearly 30% every year.” “We have the endless potential of offshore wind power on three sides, and we have the world’s best technology in related fields such as offshore plants and steel. It is not second to none,” he explained.

This event is the 10th schedule of President Moon’s visit to the Korean version of the New Deal, which began in June of last year. President Moon has visited industrial sites related to new industries such as Data Dam, Smart Industrial Complex, Smart City, and Future Vehicles. The only event related to offshore wind power was held for the second time on this day following July 2020. The Blue House emphasized, “In particular, this day’s visit was the first place President Moon visited in relation to a new deal project led by the region,” and emphasized that “The Jeonnam-type win-win job agreement was held together with the investment agreement ceremony.”

Regarding Jeonnam-type jobs, President Moon said, “The core of Jeonnam-type jobs is that local residents directly participate in the project.” “With the win-win job model, residents will have a stake and receive profits.” He added, “It will be a’offshore wind power pension’ that is paid for a lifetime to local residents,” he added. “The goods and services necessary for manufacturing wind power equipment will also be provided through cooperatives formed by residents.”
