Samsung Electronics will support the waterproof and dustproof functions of the Galaxy A series, which are mid- to low-end phones in 3 years. In the first half of the year, it plans to release the Galaxy A with the flagship (top-level) function to continue the box office boom.
According to the industry on the 21st, Samsung Electronics is planning to introduce a series of mid-range phones such as the Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72 in Korea in the first half of the year. Samsung Electronics supports two models of Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72 with IP67-rated waterproof and dustproof and 90Hz refresh rate.
Previously, Samsung Electronics did not add waterproof and dustproof functions to the Galaxy A series last, with the Galaxy A series released in the first half of 2018. However, this time, it is a strategy to fill the gap in the flagship phone market after the launch of the Galaxy S21 in January with waterproof and dustproof functions and to solidify its position in the mid- to low-end phone market.
According to German media Winfuture, the Galaxy A52 has a 6.25-inch Super AMOLED display and a 64 megapixel main camera on the back. It also has four (quad) cameras, a fingerprint sensor with built-in display, and a 4500mAh battery. The Galaxy A72 has a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display and a 5000mAh battery.
The Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72 are expected to form a price of 500,000 won and 600,000~700,000 won, respectively. The global smartphone market contracted due to the spread of Corona 19 last year, but the consumption of mid- and low-priced phones is on the rise.
According to data released on the 18th by market research firm Counterpoint Richer City, last year’s most-selling smartphone in Korea was the LTE-only Galaxy A31. The Galaxy A31 was popular with consumers with a quad camera and a large-capacity battery (5000mAh) at the factory price of 300,000 won.
In the aftermath of Corona 19, the proportion of smartphone sales under 400,000 won increased from 34% in 2019 to 41% in 2020. During the same period, the sales share of smartphones over 800,000 won decreased from 40% to 32%.
