“Aren’t you cheated?”… Xiaomi pours mockery on 300 million new logo

[아시아경제 김봉주 기자] On the 30th of last month, Xiaomi founder and CEO Leijun unveiled a new logo at an event announcing its entry into the electric vehicle market.
Xiaomi’s’mi’ is left as it is, and the existing square border has been replaced with a circle.
CEO Ray said that the logo has been changed since 2017, and finally created a new design with the help of famous Japanese designer Genya Hara.
SCMP said, “Xiaomi did not disclose the cost of changing the logo design, but found out that Chinese netizens are 2 million yuan (about 340 million won).”
Chinese netizens said that they were mocking by reacting such as “call the police”, “I can do it for 2,000 yuan,” and “it seems to have been deceived.”
CEO Ray introduced the changed logo, which seemed to have expected such a reaction, and said, “Are you disappointed by just changing the original logo?”
“The changed logo symbolizes the improvement of the company’s internal spirit and quality,” he said.
Some analysts say that the controversy and interest surrounding Xiaomi’s new logo has already had the effect of offsetting the cost of designing the logo.
