The Vatican Way of the Cross in the Pandemic Ceremony Completed… Spreading the message of hope

Vatican's'Road of the Cross' ceremony in the pandemic completed... Spreading the'Hope' message

Pope Francis held a ceremony on Good Friday on the night of the 2nd (local time) in the square in front of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.

The ceremonies of the Way of the Cross to meditate on the suffering and death of Jesus are usually held at the Roman Colosseum, with thousands of believers gathered.

However, this year, as in last year, in the aftermath of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), the venue was moved to St. Peter’s Square and held briefly.

On this day, a giant cross-shaped candle was placed around the ancient Egyptian relic’Obelisk’ in the center to create a spectacular view.

The Pope led the ceremony in front of the Basilica of St. Peter.

On both sides, there were about 200 people, including priests and ordinary believers.

At the ceremony, Italian elementary school students read aloud the contemplation of conscience.

The handwritten meditations written by the children were revealed between the prayers of the ’14 Points of the Cross’, which refer to 14 important events from the time Jesus was sentenced to crucifixion and executed until he was buried in the ground.

Among them, there was an article describing the embarrassment of getting up and getting wet in bed, and the sadness of the parents fighting.

One child recalled his grandfather, who became famous after being taken to the hospital for corona19 infection, Reuters reported.

In this regard, Vatican News, the official media of the Holy See, wrote, “The’empty St. Peter’s Square’, a heartbreaking symbol of solitude and isolation caused by Corona 19, was filled with the hopes of children’s meditation.”

Pope Francis celebrates Easter Holy Night Mass on the evening of the 3rd, and on Easter Day 4, Urbi et orbi (Latin for’Rome and the whole world’), a message of the resurrection and the blessing of the Pope.
