The crisis of declining population in the Chungcheong area increases

Counting 2829 births in January
341 people decreased from the same period last year
Continued population dead cross phenomenon
Corona aftermath reflected intact

[충청투데이 조선교 기자] The declining rate of births in the Chungcheong area, which peaked last year, intensifies earlier this year, accelerating the crisis of population decline.

According to the statistics of the first birth of pregnant cases after the landing of Corona 19 (hereinafter referred to as Corona) in Korea, the aftermath of the infectious disease is revealed in earnest, and it is observed that the decline in births and population will intensify further.

According to the January population trend released by the National Statistical Office on the 24th, the number of births in Daejeon in January was 675, Sejong was 344, Chungbuk was 773, and Chungnam was 1037, a total of 2829.

This is a decrease of 341 people from the same period last year (3,170 people), and it is found that the number of people has decreased by 200 to 300 people each year compared to the same period for the last five years.

In particular, the number of births in January was less than the number of deaths during the same period (3183), and the number of natural increases was -354, and the phenomenon of’dead cross’ continued, with the number of deaths exceeding the number of births.

In January, the natural growth rate per 1,000 people in each region led to an increase of 7.8 in Sejong, but 0.3 in Daejeon, -1.8 in Chungbuk, and -2.2 in Chungnam.

Earlier, the number of births in the Chungcheong area last year was 3,500, far less than the number of deaths during the same period (36,500).

The problem is that, following the announcement on the day, the observation that this decline will become more prominent in the future is dominant.

In the case of the number of births, which fell sharply last year, while the corona crisis did not affect the fertility rate, this statistics is interpreted as a case of pregnancy around March, when the first social distancing was promoted following the Pendemic Declaration.

Therefore, from this, it is predicted that the aftermath of the corona will be revealed intact in statistics, and the number of births will also drop sharply.

In particular, the number of marriages in the Chungcheong area last year was 23,005, the lowest since the statistics were prepared, and it is expected to have a significant impact on the rapid decline in the number of births.

The main causes of this situation are the economic deterioration due to the corona crisis, the contracted employment market, and concerns about the health of births over infectious diseases.

There are voices of concern about the decline in the future as January recorded the largest number of births out of 12 months each year.

An official of the National Statistical Office said, “The number of births and marriages is declining, and the number of deaths is expected to increase due to the aging of the population, and the natural decline of the population is expected to continue.” Chosunkyo reporter [email protected]
