AstraZeneca’s new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccination will begin on the 23rd, targeting hospitalized, residents, and workers aged 65 or older in nursing hospitals and nursing facilities. President Moon Jae-in will also be vaccinated against AstraZeneca prior to attending the G7 Summit held in the UK in June. Vaccines against high-risk groups, including residents and workers in elderly facilities and facilities for the disabled, will also begin in earnest from the third quarter of this year.

The targets of AstraZeneca vaccination, starting on the 23rd, are 20,6443 people related to nursing and mental hospitals, 16,7357 people related to nursing homes for the elderly, and 2924 people related to mental care and rehabilitation facilities.

The Korean government has withheld vaccinations for those over 65 because of the lack of clinical data to determine the effectiveness of the AstraZeneca vaccine for the elderly over the age of 65. Later, as a result of research conducted in England and Scotland, it was concluded that the vaccine is effective even in the elderly, so it was decided to administer the vaccination in Korea as well.

President Moon and Kim Jung-sook will also be vaccinated on the 23rd, when the AstraZeneca vaccination for people 65 years of age or older begins, the Blue House announced through a briefing on the 15th. President Moon and Mrs. Kim Jeong-suk are 68 and 66, respectively, this year.
