An unfortunate case has been reported that a man in his 70s who lived alone died during self-isolation after being infected with Corona 19. The old man who died also had a 49-year-old son, but it is said that he could not ask for help because he had a disability.

According to Italian media La Stampa, on the afternoon of the 17th (local time), a 78-year-old man died in an apartment building in Asti, northern Piedmont. The old man was recently diagnosed with Corona 19, but was in quarantine while staying at his home, not in a hospital. A relative, who had usually taken care of the old man’s health, reported to the authorities when he did not answer several calls, but was found dead by paramedics. A 49-year-old son, who was living in a nearby shelter, stayed with him at the residence after hearing the news of his father’s confirmation, but the son was reportedly unable to ask for help due to his father’s critical condition. The son is known to be under the protection of local paramedics while being shocked by his father’s death.

In Italy, as the number of new corona19 confirmed cases has erupted around 20,000 a day, a strict containment policy is in place that effectively bans 30 million people, half the population, from going out from the 15th. It is said that a large number of patients with mild symptoms that have already exceeded the patient accommodation capacity in local hospitals are being treated with self-isolation. In particular, the case of elderly people died during self-isolation as their condition suddenly worsened due to Corona 19, and it is known that they are mainly vulnerable groups such as the elderly living alone. The number of deaths per day in Italy as of the 17th was 431, and the number of deaths per day was 502 on the 16th, the previous day, the highest since the end of January this year.
