Choo Seon-hee, the secretary-general of the Parents’ Union, was confirmed in the Supreme Court, who led various control demonstrations to support old passports by conspiring with the National Intelligence Service.
The first part of the Supreme Court (Presiding Judge Kim Seon-eun) is suspended for 10 months in prison for political involvement and 1 year and 6 months in prison for the rest of the charges, including defamation, violation of the law on assembly and demonstration, and blackmail. It was announced on the 18th that it had confirmed the court case sentenced to three years.
With the support of the National Intelligence Service, Mr. Chu was handed over to trial on charges of leading a control demonstration in 2010-2013 to represent the government’s position on various political issues and attack those with a tendency to be critical of the government. In August 2013, CJ was also accused of extorting money and other goods such as gift sets worth 10 million won and 12 million won in cash on condition that a’condemning left-leaning company’ protest was held in front of the CJ Group headquarters and stopped.
The first trial court judged the charges guilty except for blackmail, and sentenced him to one year and ten months in prison and four years probation. The Appeals Tribunal sentenced him to 10 months in prison, saying, “It is illegal to help the NIS in political involvement from outside, so it is not easy to prevent a recurrence unless punished.” In addition, he admitted guilty to the charge of blackmail, saying, “The CJ side basically had anxiety about the parental association.”
In response, Mr. Chu appealed that the sentence was excessive, but the Supreme Court dismissed it, saying, “There is no misunderstanding of the law in the original case, and appeals based on improper sentencing are allowed only cases in which the death penalty, life imprisonment, or imprisonment for more than 10 years or imprisonment is allowed.” .
