The National Assembly Science and Technology Information Broadcasting and Communication Committee (Chairman Lee Won-wook) held a general meeting on the 17th and decided on nine bills, including the revised bill of the Nuclear Safety Act. It is intended to protect the safety of workers and neighbors from radioactive disasters caused by nuclear power plants.

The amendment to the’Nuclear Safety Act’ △reinforces the period for disqualification of nuclear safety-related permits and licenses from the current 2 to 3 years, and △ the procedure for obtaining approval from the Korean National Security Council in the case of restarting the nuclear reactor is explicitly stated in the law △If the orderer did not provide a safe working environment to the radiation worker, the ROK can order to stop the radiographic inspection work.

In addition, it is intended to prepare the basis for conducting a radiation environmental impact assessment in the event of an environmental monitoring result in a foreign radiation emergency. .

In addition, the’Nuclear Power Damage Compensation Act’ was amended to raise the limit of liability for each nuclear accident by a nuclear power plant from the current 300 million SDR (special drawing rights of the International Monetary Fund, about 500 billion KRW) to 900 million SDR. The range of compensation for damages caused by victims has been expanded.

In addition, with the revision of the’Act on Protection and Radiation Disaster Prevention for Nuclear Facilities, etc.’ Mayor/Do governors and mayors/gun/gu heads made it possible to distribute thyroid protective drugs in advance if necessary. Accordingly, it is expected that there will be an effect of quickly protecting residents from radioactive emergencies or disasters.
