The movie’Buttercup’, which swept through various awards ceremonies in the United States, sparked another wave.
The American Academy of Film Arts, which hosts the Academy Awards, announced the final nominations for the 93rd Academy Awards, which will be held next month.
‘Minari’ was nominated in six categories, including Best Works, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Actor, Screenplay and Music Award.
In particular, actor Yoon Yeo-jeong, who played the role of grandmother’Soonja’, wrote the record of being nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the first time in Korea after 50 years of acting.
‘Minari’ is an autobiographical film directed by Korean-American director Isak Jeong, depicting the sorrows of a Korean family who moved to Arkansas, USA.
“I started because I wanted to tell a personal story.’Minari’ was always made with the Korean audience in mind.”
Although it is an American film, a large portion of the dialogue was produced in Korean.

Earlier last year, director Bong Joon-ho’s’Parasite’ was nominated for 6 categories in the Academy and won 4 categories including Best Works.
Meanwhile,’Opera’ by Korean-American director Eric Oh was the only Asian film to be nominated for the Academy Short Animation category.
