‘LH speculation’ Gwangmyeong·Siheung 3rd new town withdrawal, 6 out of 10 citizens “appropriate”

On the 15th, a public opinion poll came out on the 15th that a majority of the people thought that the new city designation should be canceled for the 3rd new city additionally designated areas such as Gwangmyeong and Siheung, where suspicions of land speculation by employees of Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) have arisen.

In a survey conducted by Real Meter on YTN’s request on 500 people over the age of 18 (±4.4% points for a 95% confidence level with a sample error),’Gwangmyeong and Siheung, which have been controversial due to the speculative behavior of LH executives and employees. 57.9% of the respondents answered’appropriate’ to the question,’Do you think it is appropriate to withdraw the claim that the additional designation of the 3rd new city, including the one, should be withdrawn?’ 34.0% said it was’inappropriate’ and 8.1% said’I don’t know’.

In most regions, including Incheon and Gyeonggi (65.2%), Gwangju and Jeolla (63.8%), and Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (63.1%), the withdrawal of the designation exceeded 60%. In Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungcheong, the only respondents of’inappropriate’ (48.9%) were higher than’appropriate’ (37.4%).

By age, most of the opinions that withdrawal of designation is appropriate were in their 30s (64.2%), in their 20s (60.9%), in their 40s (59.8%), in their 60s (58.8%), and in their 50s (56.6%). Among those over 70 years old,’appropriate’ was intensified at 44.2% and’inappropriate’ at 49.2%. By party, 50.8% of the supporters of the Democratic Party responded that it is’appropriate’, while 66.7% of the supporters of the people’s power.

Previously, the government announced five new towns, Namyangju Wangsuk, Hanam Gyosan, Goyang Changneung, Bucheon Daejang, and Incheon Gyeyang. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced measures for the 2nd and 4th real estate after the inauguration of Minister Byeon Chang-heum, and the government announced that as a follow-up measure, Gwangmyeong and Siheung would be built as the sixth third new city and supplied 70,000 units. In addition, it announced that it will create a medium-sized new city in Daejeo in Busan and Sanjeong in Gwangju.

The government plans to push ahead with the 3rd new town as scheduled despite allegations of speculation. President Moon Jae-in said at a conference inviting the Democratic Party delegation on the 10th of Jinna, “It is most urgent to stabilize the real estate market quickly and secure the people’s right to live by proceeding with the 2·4 real estate supply measures without being shaken by this incident.” .
