After the press conference of the participation solidarity and the association of lawyers for democratic society (Minbyun) on March 2nd, the’suspect of speculation in the 3rd new city of the metropolitan area’ is spreading. Is it due to an occupational disease? As I watched the trend of this case, it was difficult to answer the question, “What has the media been doing so far?” This question has evolved into the question, “Is the existing reporting system and practices of the press good?” The Participatory Solidarity and Minbyun said that they were investigating the allegations of speculation. Why didn’t the report go to the media earlier? Was it because I lost my trust? How much is the amount of articles reported by reports out of the usual media articles? The term’publication journalism’ came out because the media mainly dictates the presentations of the government and political circles and stays at the level of coloring according to their own colors. As part of media reform, the issue of the closedness of journalists has been actively discussed, but is it not a reform at the level of’fairness in dictation’, which is an important issue?
Overall, Korea’s elite class fits only with each other, centering on various ties. Their world is surprisingly narrow. This is why they are indifferent to people’s livelihood. Not only will it be difficult to know people’s livelihoods without meeting people who are different from the ones you normally do, and it will be difficult to even consider peoples lived as the main agenda.
The media usually shout out public welfare. Nevertheless, why do we focus on the government and politicians as if they were risking their lives while staying away from the field of people’s livelihood? Of course we don’t know why. This is probably because a lot of important news comes out from the government and politics, and news can be mass-produced at a relatively low cost of coverage. It’s a good talk, but it’s very difficult to target people’s livelihoods. Not only is it difficult to find such a news story, and the cost of coverage is too high, making it difficult to make a profit. It is also a problem that readers in the digital age do not welcome such public welfare news. It is correct to view news that can cause anger and hot interest to the extent that the readers’ blood, such as the’suspect of speculation in the new city land’, is an exception. Those who take a close look at the comments posted on the usual articles will know it well. There are a lot of comments on articles informing that politicians or celebrities have made violent and provocative accusations against someone. On the other hand, although it has an important meaning that affects each individual’s life, there are few cases where comments are posted on articles related to public welfare that do not have a direct stakeholder. So what do you do? I want the media to re-evaluate the meaning and value of the report. As everyone has experienced at least once, we often hear that obvious corruption or things that are close to corruption are being committed in various fields of society. Of course, it was the testimony of the person who witnessed it, or the words that were heard indirectly. We are not surprised. He takes a posture that seems to be welcoming in the way that the world is all that way. If you express your surprise for nothing, you will hear Pinzan as an innocent person who doesn’t know the world. Anyone who has ever heard of such a testimony will know well, but most of the news is not worth or weak. It is easy to scam only ridicule when reporting to the media. Even if you think there is some news value, it is difficult to report it. There are also personal problems such as human relations, and is not Korea a society that suppresses’public interest whistleblowers’? From the politicians, when they are in their favor, they raise the public-interest as heroes, but when they are disadvantageous to them, they make the public-interest in the world a desperate person, so who would dare to venture out? The need for the media to re-evaluate the meaning and value of the report means that the existing practice of ignoring the report unless it is a report that can become news directly is an extension of the constitution of’announcement journalism’. Small, seemingly insignificant reports should be welcomed and guided, making them the starting point of the report. Wouldn’t it be possible to drastically reduce the cost of coverage rather than blindly exploring public welfare sites? In the mid-1970s, American sociologist Mark Granobetter provided empirical evidence that the majority of people were employed by acquaintances who were’loose relationships’ rather than close friends. The reason is simple. This is because close friends and acquaintances are homogeneous and have similar behavioral ranges, while those with weak ties have outstanding diversity and live in different behavioral ranges. In the same way, reporters themselves should also be suspicious of the influence of the water they usually play. Who are the people you usually meet? Overall, Korea’s elite class fits only with each other, centering on various ties. Their world is surprisingly narrow. This is why they are indifferent to people’s livelihood. Not only will it be difficult to know people’s livelihoods without meeting people who are different from the ones you normally do, and it will be difficult to even consider peoples lived as the main agenda. Can reporters be confident that they are not? We look forward to the opening of the era of’report journalism’, which considers the scene of people’s livelihood as the anger of the news.
