Apple invests 1 billion euros (about 1.35 trillion won) over three years in the Munich Research Institute in Germany to design the next generation of semiconductors. Apple plans to strengthen its own semiconductor design and production capabilities and develop core technologies related to next-generation communications, based in the Munich Research Center.

According to the semiconductor industry on the 12th, Apple will establish a new semiconductor laboratory with a scale of 30,000 square kilometers in Karlstras, Munich in the second half of next year. The new semiconductor lab will focus on developing 5G, next-generation wireless technologies, and communication chipsets for Apple products.

Apple said that the Munich Semiconductor Research Institute will become Europe’s largest R&D center to develop Apple’s mobile semiconductors and communication technologies, and it is said to be the’European Silicon Design Center’.

In 2015, Apple opened a hardware design center in Bavaria, Germany with 350 people. The German research team at Apple is responsible for designing the power supply for Apple devices, contributing to reducing the average energy consumption of products by more than 70%. Even now, half of Apple’s power supply designers work in Germany.

Currently, Apple employs over 4,000 people in Germany, especially in Munich, with 1,500 engineers from 40 countries worldwide.

Tim Cook, Apple Chief Executive Officer, said, “Munich’s engineering team will be focused on discovering new possibilities for 5G technology and making Apple devices more speed and more connected.” As a symbolic place.
