US Secretary of State Tony Blincoln announced on the 10th (local time) that he had no intention to lift Iranian funds frozen in South Korea.
Secretary of State Blincoln attended a hearing on the House Foreign Relations Committee on the same day. He answered the question that confirms the facts.
“Why is Joe Biden’s administration trying to free money?” Blincoln responded to a question from Congressman Stobi: “We don’t do that. The report is not accurate.”
When asked “Will we not release any funds,” Blincoln said again, “We will not.”
“If Iran returns to complying with its nuclear agreement obligations, we will do the same,” he said.
It is believed to be the purpose of reviewing the issue of the freeze of funds by looking at Iran’s compliance with the nuclear agreement and return to negotiations.
Iran said on the 23rd of last month that it is expected to get back $1 billion of Iran’s $7 billion assets frozen in South Korea.
In response, the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that although there was a basic approach to opinions, “the actual release of frozen funds will be accomplished through consultations with related countries such as the United States.” It also revealed that there is no set specific amount, such as $1 billion.
