The Korea Football Association (KFA) announced on the 10th that it had agreed with the Japan Football Association to hold a friendly match for the Korea-Japan national team in Yokohama, Japan on the 25th. The kick-off time has yet to be confirmed, and the stadium is Yokohama Nissan Stadium.
A friendly match with Japan has been held for 10 years since the match was held in Sapporo, Japan (0-3) in August 2011.
Since 2011, the EAFF E-1 Championship (formerly known as the East Asian Cup) has been confronted four times, and Korea has recorded 2 wins, 1 draws and 1 loss.
Korea’s overall career record against Japan and Korea was 79 with 42 wins, 23 draws and 14 losses. Even if we count only the games held in Japan, we also lead by 16 wins, 8 draws and 6 losses in 30 matches.
Yokohama Nissan Stadium is the venue for the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup final, where two Korea-Japan matches have been held so far. In the Dynasty Cup in March 1998, they lost 1-2 to Japan, and in the East Asian Cup in December 2003 they drew 0-0.
KFA Secretary General Jeon Han-jin said, “It is time to check the performance of the national team ahead of the 4 matches of the 2022 Qatar World Cup Asian 2nd qualifiers to be held in June and the final qualifiers of the World Cup starting in the second half of the year. Although we are having difficulties due to Corona 19, we have decided to actively utilize the valuable A match period when considering future World Cup qualifiers.
Also, “We have already sent a request notice to the overseas clubs where the players to be called are being discussed. After returning to Korea, the K-leagues quarantined their cohort at Paju NFC for the first 7 days, and for the remaining 7 days, they returned to their team and discussed with the government so that they could participate in the game. Accordingly, we plan to request cooperation from the K-League club as well.”
