Siheung City announced on the 10th that 8 officials who have acquired land in the planned Gwangmyeong and Siheung new towns have been confirmed so far.
Siheung Mayor Im Byung-taek said in a briefing that afternoon, “7 out of 8 public officials voluntarily reported that they owned the land in the area, and one confirmed it in the process of their own investigation.” It has not been found yet.”
However, Mayor Lim added, “We plan to further investigate the acquisition process for one public official who was confirmed to have purchased land during the self-investigation process.”
It was found that 7 people owned the land in the new city’s planned site, and only 1 was the owner. In addition, three public officials acquired land after 2015, which is within the last five years, and the rest were confirmed to have been acquired between 1980 and 2013, including two inheritors.
One person who was confirmed to be acquired during the investigation was a Level 5 public official who is currently undergoing a merit training, and it was revealed that he acquired 91㎡ of land in Gwangmyeong City through an auction in October last year.
Mayor Lim explained that in a simultaneous survey of 357 employees of Siheung City Corporation, there were no suspicions to date.
Since the 5th, Siheung City has been investigating whether 2,071 officials and 357 employees of Siheung City Corporation are owned and traded in the Gwangmyeong Siheung New City area.
Mayor Lim said, “I will take strict measures in the future if the investigation process reveals the illegal acts of the government officials.”
