The relic donation ceremony for the soccer museum to be built in the’Korea Football Comprehensive Center’ was held at Cheonan City Hall on the afternoon of the 9th.
The event was attended by officials from both organizations, including Korean Football Association President Chung Mong-gyu, Park Sang-don, Cheonan Mayor, and Lee Jae-hyung, who is famous for collecting soccer relics.
A total of 189 items were donated first through the event. 129 items donated by Jae-Hyung Lee’s collection and storage for over 40 years and 60 items donated by the Korea Football Association. Among the donations of Lee Jae-hyung are many favorite items of famous players, such as the soccer shoes worn by Choi Jung-min, who played an active part as a striker at the time of winning the 1st Asian Cup in 1956, and the soccer shoes worn by Ahn Jung-hwan, the protagonist of the 2002 World Cup semi-final feat. In addition, collections of foreign stars were donated, such as the uniform worn by Pele and Maradona, and the soccer ball that Euzebio wore when he was a child.
The Korea Football Association also donated trophies and pennants to win various international competitions.
Chung Mong-gyu, president of the Korea Football Association, said in a greeting, “I expect that the Football Museum will become a monument to the history of Korean football. In the future, not only footballers, but also the general public would like to donate a lot of football artifacts in their possession.”
Cheonan Mayor Park Sang-don said, “The soccer museum is a key facility along with the stadium and indoor soccer field among the buildings of the soccer center. The donation of relics by the Korea Football Association and Lee Jae-hyung will be of great help in enriching the contents of the soccer museum.”
The Korea Football Comprehensive Center is a project to build 12 soccer fields, accommodations, office buildings, gymnasiums, futsal courts, tennis courts, and swimming pools on a site of about 450,000 square meters in Gasan-ri, Gyeongsang-myeon, Cheonan City. It aims to be completed in June 2023.
