In 2014, a woman who took her two-year-old son to Syria was sentenced to three years in prison.

The Associated Press said on the 8th (local time) that the court of the Lund court in southern Sweden said, “I moved to Syria with my son and tried to settle for life,” and “I unilaterally took my son from my father.”

The judge also explained, “I took my child to a region occupied by IS, which had a violent ideology, and was a battlefield,” and said, “I tried to permanently settle there, and I tried to remove my son from my father in a random way.”

According to the court, the woman, who lived in the southern village of Lanskrona, told the child’s father that “I will come on vacation with my son in Turkey.” However, the woman took her son through Syria to the IS territory.

Then, three years later, when the Allied forces occupied the IS in 2017, they were captured by Kurdish forces while fleeing to Turkey from the capital Laka in northern Syria.

At the time of arrest, the woman had two daughters in addition to a son she brought to IS. They were children who were married after a month with a Tunisian soldier I met there.

The woman insisted in the court that “I went to Syria with the intention of coming to see what the IS occupied place was for a few days,” but the court refused.
