The interview between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who left the British royal family, has finally been released.
In an exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey, broadcast on CBS, USA on the 7th (local time), Harry and Markle talked about a variety of topics, including conflict with the royal family, racism and mental health issues.
The BBC has compiled 12 key points from this interview.
1. The skin color of Harry and Megan’s son
Markle said there were several conversations in the royal family concerned about “how dark” the skin tone of Archie, the son of a couple born in 2019.
Born in the United States, Markle is a black and white mixed race.
He explained that the conversation on this topic was mainly with Prince Harry. When Winfrey asked, “Who said that,” he avoided responding, saying, “The parties will suffer a lot of damage.”
Prince Harry also said, “I’m not going to mention anything about that conversation,” he said. “At the time, that conversation was uncomfortable and I think I was shocked.”

He said he was hurt for not saying anything about the royal family’s use of “colonial language” in British tabloids and in the press.
2. Kate’Routed Megan’
A few years ago, just before the wedding of the two, a British newspaper was flooded with news that Markle rang the queen Kate Middleton.
However, Markle explained that the report was not true, and that it was in fact the opposite.
Markle said, “Before the wedding, Kate was upset with the issue of Hwa-dong One Piece, and I cried.”

Markle criticized’the press likes to make someone evil’
“I’m not talking about this to attack Kate,” he said. “Kate is a good guy.” He said he just wanted Kate to correct the facts himself at the time.
3.’I even thought about suicide, but no one helped me’
Markle said that he had lost his freedom and had a very lonely time as he began his royal life.
He said that at the beginning of his royal life, everything was confiscated, including passports, driver’s licenses and house keys. As the depression got worse, he said that at some point, he thought, “I don’t want to live anymore.”
He said he asked for help from the royal family to solve his mental health problems, but said he did not get any help because public opinion worsened.
4. Megan turned to Diana’s friend for help.
The late Princess Diana’s name appeared several times during interviews. The royal life that Markle experienced reminded me of the late Diana.
Prince Harry looked at Markle and said, “History seemed to repeat itself.” Diana, who divorced Prince Charles after 15 years of marriage, later suffered tabloid attacks and malicious rumors. In 1997 in Paris, France, he died in a car accident while being chased by a paparazzi.
“I didn’t know who to ask for help,” Markle said when he was struggling, saying that he had contacted Diana’s best friend.
“Who can understand what’s going on in the royal family?”
5. Prince Charles and Harry’s relationship
Winfrey asked Prince Harry how his father, Prince Charles, and his brother, William, were related.
Prince Harry said that at some point after he officially stepped down from the royal office, his father did not answer his phone.
“To be honest, I am very disappointed. My father had a similar experience. Because you know this pain. And he’s also the grandfather of my son Archie.”
Still, he said that he always loves his father and said, “It is true that each other hurts a lot, but in the future we will try to heal this relationship.”
Regarding his older brother, Prince William, he stressed that he loved him very much, saying that he had suffered so much with him.
“We just walk a different path.”
6. Stay in touch with Queen Elizabeth II

Prince Harry says he has a good relationship with his grandmother
Prince Harry said he had a “very good relationship” with his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and that he had a lot of conversations with his grandmother recently, including making a video call with his son Archie last year.
Markle also added that Queen Elizabeth II was always warm to herself, suggesting that she cover up with a blanket during her business trip.
7. Cut off financial support
In early 2020, the two came down from high rankings in the royal family. Prince Harry said the family had “cut off financial support” shortly after the announcement.
He said that the content production contract made with Netflix and Spotify was not planned at the time, but “we had to make money for security expenses,” he said.
Harry added that the fortune left to him by his mother, the late Diana, was also of great help.
Last year, the couple, who had a short path to the United States, turned out to be supported by Hollywood billionaire and media giant Tyler Perry. Perry supported the couple with home and security personnel.

On the day this picture was taken, Markle confided to Harry about the severity of his depression.
The day Markle first confessed to her husband that he was thinking of committing suicide because of depression, the two had to appear together in an official statue.
Markle complained that when he looked at the photos taken on the spot, it was difficult to remember the feelings he felt at the time.
Markle complimented her acquaintances saying,’The two came out so nicely,’ but in her own eyes, she said, “I can see how tightly Harry is holding my hand.”
“We are laughing. Because that’s our job. But in fact, I think I was trying to catch something. The moment the royal lights went out, I was crying all the time.”
9. Megan didn’t know much about the royal world
Because Markle was born and raised in the United States, he did not know much about the royal family.
When he first met Queen Elizabeth II, he said that he had never imagined that he would have to bow his knees and say hello to the queen even in family meetings.
He said he had to get used to the royal greetings quickly, and he recalled that when he told his husband, “It’s still your grandmother,” he said, “It’s the queen.”
Markle said he tried not to look up Prince Harry on the Internet even during his relationship.
10. Harry and Meghan held a secret wedding ceremony three days before the wedding
Millions of people have watched the couple’s wedding ceremony in Windsor Castle.
However, three days before the wedding, the two said they had exchanged their vows in front of the Bishop of Canterbury.
Markle said that before the public wedding, he contacted the bishop and asked him to make a wedding vow for the two in the backyard.
11. My son Archie’s favorite words these days
Prince Harry laughed as he talked about his son Archie. He recently said he was hooked on riding his son on the back of his bike and going for a park ride.
The couple said that it was fun for their son to say “Drink enough water” these days. Whenever Harry or Markle leaves the house, they say, “Drive safely.”
12. The second daughter
Markle and Prince Harry announced the news that a daughter would be born this summer.
Harry delivered the second news, saying, “I like it so much,” “What more can I hope for.” However, he added that there is no third plan.
At the end of the interview, Winfrey asked Markle if he found a’happy ending’ in Prince Harry’s relationship, and Markle replied, “It’s better than the ending of any fairy tales you’ve read.”
