There are rumors that a large amount of gold bars are buried in the middle of downtown Iksan, Jeollabuk-do.
According to the Iksan Police Station on the 8th, there is a rumor that 2 tons of gold bars are buried in the basement of an old Japanese farm warehouse in Joohyeon-dong, which was recently designated as a nationally registered cultural property. It is about 140 billion won based on the domestic gold market on this day.
The rumors of the burial of gold bars have recently emerged in earnest as the police shared the content that’management and supervision is necessary because there may be attempts to damage cultural properties due to rumors floating around the city.’
Just as a North Korean defector issued an excavation permit in 2012 saying, “There are a lot of gold bars buried at Donghwa Temple in Daegu,” the police explained that similar attempts could be made in Iksan as a baseless snow.
Like the’Donghwasa gold bullion burial,’ which failed to excavate and ended with a hefing, attention is focused on whether this case will end with a commotion. As rumors have spread, the views that there is a high possibility that gold bars are buried among the citizens of Iksan are mixed with the observation that it is useless rumors.
The police are also paying close attention such as strengthening on-site patrols, claiming that there is a possibility that violent incidents such as robbery may occur, social confusion, or threaten public well-being, regardless of the presence or absence of buried gold bars.
An official at the Iksan Police Station said, “It was only shared with the local government about the management of cultural properties, but the contents were transferred and it seems to have spread greatly,” he said. “There is no official confirmation of this rumor so far.”
On the other hand, Iksan City is planning to block people who come in and out with the intention of destroying gold bars by installing an on-site fan this afternoon.
