80 Myanmarians wait for the border… To the military-injured sidewalk

[아시아경제 임춘한 기자] Foreign media reported on the 7th that about 50 people, including Myanmar police, have recently fled to India to escape the military control that caused the coup, and 80 more are waiting at the border to pass over to India.
An official from the Indian authorities said the day before, “more than 85 Myanmarians are waiting at the border to enter India.” Earlier, eight Myanmar police officers fled to India with their families, saying they could not follow the instructions of the military that caused the coup. They moved to the Mizoram state in northeastern India, which bordered Myanmar. It is reported that the number of people who escaped Myanmar and arrived in India so far was 48. “They said they ran away because they received unacceptable instructions from military rulers,” said Stephen Lalinoma, chief of local police in the state of Mizoram.
It is known that those who are currently waiting at the border are also trying to evacuate to the sidewalk like the previous police. Thousands of ethnic minority refugees live in India, including relatives and Rohingya people who have escaped the violent conflict in Myanmar in the past. However, it is unclear whether India will allow additional Myanmarians to cross the border. This is because the Mizoram state authorities have recently begun to strengthen border patrols to prevent further Myanmar from crossing the border. The Myanmar military also demanded the repatriation of eight police officers. In a recent official letter to the Indian government, the Myanmar military side requested that “to maintain friendly relations between the two countries, we would like to hand over the eight police officers who arrived in India to Myanmar.”
The Indian authorities said they are reviewing the official texts of Myanmar, taking into account recent cases of menstruation. Unlike Western countries such as the United States, India is showing a cautious position, such as not actively criticizing the coup in Myanmar. This is because India is making efforts to improve relations with neighboring countries, such as providing free vaccines for Corona 19 in order to confront China’s expanding influence in Myanmar and South Asia.
The military government of Myanmar held a coup on the 1st of last month and took power on the grounds that the civil government did not investigate even though serious irregularities occurred in the general elections in November last year. Since then, the military has gradually raised the level of bloodshed suppression against protesters protesting this, and it is reported that about 55 protesters have died so far.
