It is known that about 80% of the entire private land on Gadeok Island, Busan, where the construction of the new airport is scheduled, is owned by outsiders, and a company run by a family member of the former mayor of Busan, Ogeodon, is known to have land in the area of tens of thousands of pyeong. In particular, it is pointed out that the passport officials are increasing all-in and speculative boards to launch a new airport on Gadeok Island to win the by-election.
The Chosun Ilbo reported on the 3rd that the total area of Gadeokdo Island, excluding state-owned lands, is 8.586,000,633㎡ (approximately 2.6 million pyeong), based on data obtained through the Office of the People’s Power of the People’s Office.
Reportedly, 78.8% of the total private land (677,782m2, about 2.57 million pyeong) was owned by outsiders outside the island, not residents of Gadeokdo Island. The land occupied by the actual residents of Gadeokdo is only 1.81 million, 581㎡ (21.14%).
It was found that those who owned the largest land (219769㎡, about 66,600 pyeong) among private lands on Gadeok Island lived in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul. Following this, the residents of Haeundae-gu, Busan, had 62,057 ㎡ (1,8805 pyeong), the residents of Geoje-si, Gyeongsangnam-do had 40,9091 ㎡ (about 149,000 pyeong), and the residents of Tongyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do owned 42,050 ㎡ (about 12,740 pyeong). It was investigated. It was revealed that a Japanese living in Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, also owned 41751m2 (about 12,650 pyeong), and occupied the fifth largest Gadeok Island private property.
Daehan Steel President Oh Chi-hun, the great nephew of the former Busan Mayor, who caused controversy in the sexual harassment incident, also revealed that he owned 1488 square meters (about 450 pyeong) of land in Daehang-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan, which is mentioned as the construction site of Gadeokdo new airport since 2005.
President Oh, under the name of Daehan Steel, is located in Songjeong-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan, the road from Busan to Gadeok-do, with a site of 6596m2 (approximately 1990 pyeong) in the same area under the name of the subsidiary Daehan Networks. Each is in possession.
Mayor Oh has insisted on the construction of a new airport on Gadeokdo Island since 2004, before his nephew bought the land. Daehan Steel began to purchase land sequentially from 1994 to 2004, and in the case of Daehan Networks, the current land was acquired by transferring ownership in 2017. The former mayor held a 2.47% stake in Daehan Steel, but sold all of them in early 2019 after the mayor’s election.
Currently, the land prices in Gadeok Island are rising sharply due to expectations for the construction of a new airport. The official land price of Daehang-dong, owned by President Oh, rose 6 times from 73,700 won per square meter at the time of purchase to 430,000 won last year. It is also said that the current market price, which passed the Special Law on Gadeokdo Island, is more than 10 times the publicly announced price.
On the background of the land purchase, Daehan Steel said, “The corporate land in Gilmok of Gadeokdo Island is an alternative site sold due to the construction of an apartment in the existing industrial complex. The private property owned by the president has nothing to do with the new airport in Gadeokdo Island.”

The speculation fever of Gadeokdo Island is fueling more of the passport personnel.
Lee Nak-yeon, president of the Democratic Party together with President Moon Jae-in, said, “The Democratic Party has been working on air logistics to Gadeokdo Island on the 2nd, five days after visiting the planned site of Gadeokdo Island. We will build an international airport as much as possible, and we will complete it within 8 years and make the 2030 Busan Expo a success.” “Please put your support on the person who will lead the most successful change in Busan,’Gadeok Gaduk (full Busan dialect). “He appealed.
On the 26th of last month, the Democratic Party handled the Gadeokdo New Airport Special Act in the National Assembly on the 26th of last month, which included exemptions from preliminary feasibility (preliminary) investigations in order to promptly promote the new airport project on Gadeokdo Island.
In response to this trend, some of the opposition parties pointed out that “it is contradictory that the government, which has declared war on real estate speculation and war with civil engineering, pushes the new airport to Gadeokdo Island.”
Assemblyman Yoon also criticized, “If you build a new airport on Gadeokdo Island, Busan will develop, and if you make it in Gimhae, will Busan not develop?” He criticized, “The government is making Gadeokdo a speculative board with unconventional logic.”
