As early as next month (April), non-contact thermometers will be distributed to pharmacies nationwide.

It is evaluated that it will be an opportunity to strengthen the pride of pharmacists beyond the nature of compensation for pharmacies who worked hard on quarantine activities at the forefront amid the national crisis of the corona 19 pandemic.

On the 3rd, the Korean Pharmaceutical Association (Chairman Dae-Eup Kim) introduced the purpose of the non-contact thermometer support project through a press conference, and had time to answer questions of members.

Earlier, on the 28th of last month, the high-ranking party administration council decided to provide non-contact thermometers to all pharmacies nationwide that have taken the lead in quarantine activities, such as supplying public masks and initial response to suspected infections.

In this regard, Kwang-min Lee, head of the policy planning department of the Korean Pharmacy Society, means “the result of continuing to suggest to the government the need for additional quarantine supplies for pharmacies to prevent corona 19 infection by pharmacies (pharmacists and staff), which are essential facilities” Granted.

The support target is about 23,000 pharmacies nationwide, with a total budget of 8.2 billion won, which is currently being resolved by the National Assembly.

However, the pharmacy’s self-pay ratio may be adjusted from 10% depending on the results of the discussion during the resolution process of the National Assembly.

In the support project, the Korean Pharmacopoeia will be in charge of and manage the main roles of promotion, product purchase, and supply as the main body of the project.

The pharmacy society plans to select a thermometer to be distributed to pharmacies among the products approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety as medical devices by conducting an open competitive bidding when the support project is resolved at the National Assembly plenary meeting on the 18th.

In addition, in order to ensure fairness in the selection process, the evaluation judges will include the recommended number of branches.

According to the pharmacy society’s business plan, thermometers supplied to pharmacies as a support project have a mandatory period of use for at least one year. In addition, private use and commercial use will be restricted except in exceptional circumstances such as closure of business.

Director Lee Kwang-min said, “Since the announcement of the thermometer support project, various reactions have been coming from members. We have organized a press conference to solve the members’ curiosity and explain the purpose of the support project.”

In particular, “There are members who are burdened with having a thermometer in a small pharmacy,” he said. “However, all of the items that can be bid are currently small models. It will not interfere with the pharmacy operation.”

Regarding the reason for the decision to support the non-contact thermometer, he explained, “There were not many alternatives that matched the purpose of support in the situation of the spread of infectious diseases.” “The supply of thermometers could lead to the spread of public awareness of pharmacies.”

Furthermore, Lee said, “This support project should not be viewed as an alternative to the misappropriation of the public mask duty-free business. It is to do” he emphasized.

He added, “The accountability and contribution to the social role of the pharmacy appears as a system,” he said. “If we focus on social recognition and role expansion, it will be an opportunity to strengthen the pride of pharmacists.”
