[기자수첩]'Chronic deficit' loss of loss and insurance... The over-treatment practices need to be addressed first.

[아시아경제 오현길 기자]Ineligible medical insurance and automobile insurance, which are called’national insurance’, are struggling with a ‘10,000-year deficit’. Auto insurance’s cumulative operating deficit exceeded 7 trillion won from 2011 to last year. Even last year, when the loss ratio improved as traffic volume and medical use decreased due to the Corona 19 incident, a deficit amounted to 400 billion won occurred.

Eventually, as insurance companies stop selling or raise premiums one after another, the burden is being passed on to the subscribers. In 2006, insured persons in their 60s who signed up for real-loss insurance in the range of 10,000 won complained that the premium this year exceeded 130,000 won as a result of renewing three times every five years. The subscriber protested that the premium would reach 6.15 million won if the premium increase rate, which is approaching 360%, continues until the age of 80, and the financial authorities argued that what they are doing.

The problem is that maintaining insurance is a burden on insurance premiums, and the number of people who are old enough to purchase new insurance will increase in the future.

The financial authorities are planning to launch the ‘4th generation real loss insurance’ in July to resolve the problem of the insurance deficit, and devise a plan to improve the auto insurance treatment cost compensation system from the second half of this year. First of all, the insurance industry is a positive response, saying that it can improve the structure of the stuck deficit.

The common point between the two solutions is that the more medical use, the higher the self-pay (insurance premium). In the fourth generation loss, the insurance premium is discounted or increased according to the amount of medical care used, and the treatment cost compensation system is also based on the contents of the self-injury treated according to the accidental error rate.

It can help to improve the loss ratio right away. However, it is pointed out that in the long run, the social role of insurance is bound to shrink. I signed up for insurance, but paying my money and receiving treatment is against the insurance’s’Mutual Assistance’ principle. Due to the cost that the person has to bear, even if an accident occurs, there may be side effects of not receiving adequate treatment.

For a long time, the insurance industry has consistently requested proposals to establish an organization to deliberate and decide on car insurance fees, or to start discussions on improving the standard of medical fees for oriental medical treatment expenses. It is time for the government to listen to voices calling for improvement in medical practices that induce over-treatment.
