According to the industrial activity trend released by the National Statistical Office on the 2nd, production in the mining and service industries decreased in January, and all industrial production decreased by 0.6% compared to the previous month. Industrial production declined in eight months since May last year (-1.5%).
Manufacturing production decreased by 1.7% and mining production decreased by 1.6%, driving the overall decline. The production of the service industry declined 0.2%, continuing the decline for two consecutive months following the previous month (-1.1%).
Retail sales, showing consumption trends, increased 1.6% from the previous month. It is an increase for the second consecutive month following last December (0.1%). The increase was the highest since August last year (3.0%).
Non-durable goods such as pharmaceuticals (-0.1%) decreased, but sales of durable goods such as home appliances (4.8%) and semi-durable goods such as clothing (1.0%) increased, showing an increase.
Facility investment decreased by 6.2% MoM, although investment in transportation equipment such as automobiles (-8.4%) decreased, but increased in machinery (11.2%) such as special industrial machinery.
Domestic machinery orders declined in the public sector (-49.1%) such as public guitars and the private sector (-8.3%) such as electronic parts, showing a decrease of 11.4% year-on-year.
The cyclical fluctuation of the coincident index, which represents the current economy, fell 0.2 points from the previous month, breaking the upward trend that continued for 7 consecutive months until December.
