The keywords in the morning newspaper of Section 3.1 were the section 3.1 rally, the independent projection plan, Myanmar’Blood Sunday’, and the 4th disaster support fund.
Section 3.1 Urban gatherings, such as the Republican Party’s’People’s Total Struggle Rally’, will be held. Among the nine general daily newspapers (Kyunghyang National Dong-A, Seoul, World Central Chosun Hankyoreh, Korea), on the front page of the day, the news related to the rally was the Dong-A Ilbo and the Chosun Ilbo.

The Dong-A Ilbo reported that the rally was reported as a’split rally’ on this day, and there was a fear of a large-scale rally spreading, and that there was an emergency for the COVID-19 quarantine, but the Chosun Ilbo posted an article stating “The Gwanghwamun rally is prohibited, closing the space for freedom of expression” to prevent quarantine. Therefore, he emphasized the view that it is excessive to block the assembly.
The first page of the Dong-A Ilbo said, “In the wake of Section 3.1, there were about 1670 rally reported to the police in Seoul or scheduled to be held in the form of a press conference. There is also a concern that it will spread to a large-scale rally on the same day as there are cases where groups have reported it as a’split rally’.”
The Dong-A Ilbo said, “There is no possibility that a rally held in downtown Seoul will spread to a large-scale rally. The Republican Party of Korea encouraged the’popular all-out struggle rally’ at 1 pm on the 1st and reported a rally with no more than 9 members in 150 places such as Jongno or Euljiro.”

The Dong-A Ilbo, in an article on page 10, says, “When the 3·1 splitting rally spreads… ‘Concerns about re-enactment of group infection on Liberation Day’ posted an article. At the same time, the Dong-A Ilbo said, “There is a case where the National Federation of Democratic Trade Unions held a split rally in the vicinity of the Blue House earlier this month and about 250 people gathered.”
In addition, he pointed out about the’Liberal Day Rally’ on August 15th, “At the time, only small gatherings were allowed in Gwanghwamun Square, but tens of thousands of people gathered, resulting in the worst result of a new coronavirus infection.”
If the Dong-A Ilbo showed a critical view at both the Gwanghwamun assembly and the KCTU rally for quarantine, the Chosun Ilbo emphasized the freedom of assembly in the front page article, “The Gwanghwamun assembly is prohibited and the space to breathe is closed”. In this article, the Chosun Ilbo reported that the two courts of the Seoul Administrative Court decided on’conditional permission’ for two of the 3.1 Gwanghwamun assembly banned by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the police on the 26th.

In particular, he said, “It is possible to restrict the holding of the assembly only to the minimum extent necessary,” while allowing the assembly of the Free Korea Corps in Section 3.1 as ’20 people’.
The Hankyoreh said in an editorial on the day “The day before the first day of school, conservative groups for the’Section 3.1 assembly’ are irresponsible.’ Not only that, especially the day before the start of school, civil unrest is bound to be great.”
The Hankyoreh, an Independence activist’s descendant, highlights the’wife’ of the independence fighter
It was the Hankyoreh and the Hankook Ilbo that put the project related to the independence fighters on the front page in celebration of Section 3.1.
The Hankyoreh posted a special article titled’Finding the descendants of this independence activist’, but highlights the independence activists who were forgotten because they could not find any descendants. 6228 people participated in the independence movement and were officially packaged, but they were kept by the National Veterans Affairs Office because they had no descendants. Meanwhile, the Hankyoreh released some of the list of publicly rewarded independence activists who participated in the independence movement, such as Chae Chan, Paik Gwang-pil, Jang Jae-wook, Kim Gyeong-do, and Lee Gap-moon, and presented a campaigning article to find descendants.

The Hankook Ilbo project highlighted the wife of an independence activist. Its title was “The wives of independence activists who were hidden,’Equal struggle, not housewife’.” The 1966 memoirs of Lee Eun-sook, the wife of Lee Hoi-young of the right party, shed light on the lives of the independence activists’ wives.
According to the Hankook Ilbo, since 2018, the work of discovering female independence activists at the Veterans Affairs Department has been in full swing, but the proportion of women out of the total of 16,000 people of independence merit is still less than 3%. The Hankook Ilbo said, “It is often ignored because of the lack of objective data to support the achievements of the independence activist wives.” He pointed out that it is not sufficiently recognized in front of the standards.”
The Hankook Ilbo said, “At the time, independence movements were mostly’family units’, but independence activist wives who followed their husbands to China and Manchuria began as liaisons to independence movement groups and contributed to liberation by working as teachers at schools under the Provisional Government. “It was not recorded, but because there was no income, I was responsible for the livelihood of my family alone, and I was even caught and imprisoned by Japanese imprisonment and suffered severe torture.”

Myanmar’Blood Sunday’
The Myanmar military fired live ammunition at protesters against the coup on the 28th of last month, killing at least 18 people. Newspapers reported on the 1st as “the worst bloodshed” since the military coup in Myanmar.
On the 28th, a second round of uprising was held in Myanmar, a protest against the coup, and armed police and soldiers suppressed it by violence. The United Nations Human Rights Office in Myanmar said that evening at least 18 Myanmar citizens were killed and 30 were injured. The UN Human Rights Office criticized that “the use of lethal force against nonviolent protesters cannot be justified in the light of international human rights norms.”

According to an article on the 13th page of the Hankyoreh, on the 27th, the police suppressed the anti-coup protests by shooting water cannons and rubber bullets in major cities in Myanmar, and arrested more than 400 protesters, including a reporter in Myanmar Now. An article on the 2nd page of Kyunghyang Shinmun said, “Myan Manau said on the 27th that at least five journalists were arrested.”
4th disaster subsidy, 2 million additional people including street vendors and daily workers
On the 28th, together with the government, the Democratic Party agreed to prepare an additional budget for correction (additional), including the 4th disaster support fund for the recovery of Corona 19 damage, for a total amount of 19 trillion won. About 2 million people were included, including small business owners, self-employed, freelancers, corporate taxi drivers, street vendors, and low-income college students. In particular, temporary livelihood support of 500,000 won is paid to street vendors and daily workers.
The government plans to vote on the supplementary bill at the Cabinet Meeting on the 2nd and submit it to the National Assembly on the 4th. If the supplementary bill is passed, the 4th disaster support fund is expected to be paid in late March.
The Hankook Ilbo said in a three-page article, “In particular, the party government paid attention to widening the scope of the 4th disaster support payment as much as possible, such as giving disaster subsidies to street vendors that were not even mentioned as support because they did not pay taxes.”
