The suspicion of improper sponsorship from stakeholders over the fact that actor Lee Young-ae’s side paid political sponsorships to the ruling and opposition defense members refuted, saying, “Lee Young-ae and her husband, Chairman Chung Ho-young, have nothing to do with the defense industry.”
In a phone call on the 25th, Lee Young-ae said, “Because Lee Young-ae is a military family, he has an affection for the soldiers, so he continued to support the corps school and the military family. Chairman Chung does not run a defense industry. It has been 10 years since he lost his business. This has passed. The stake is also around 0%,” he explained.
Lee Young-ae explained that Lee Young-ae’s father is a 6·25 veteran, and that Chairman Chung’s father is a soldier from the Military Academy who opposed the 5·16 military affairs. Chairman Chung is now known to operate a telecommunications-related company in the United States.
An official from Lee Young-ae emphasized, “Because of this family background, Lee Young-ae is unconditionally sponsoring and honoring in affairs related to the military or military regardless of the opposition lawmakers. Check whether the lawmakers who received the sponsorship had any business requests or anything like that.”
In the’List of Donors Exceeding 3 Million Won’ released by the Central Election Commission earlier, it was stated that Lee Young-ae sponsored 5 million won each to Democratic Party Rep. Kim Byeong-ju and People’s Power Rep. Han Ki-ho and Shin Won-sik.
In this regard, it was argued that the wife of Chairman Chung, who was the owner of a mid-sized defense industry, sponsored a large amount of money as inappropriate sponsorship from stakeholders.
Meanwhile, all the lawmakers who received the donation responded that they did not know if Chung was in the defense industry.
