A German radio host compared BTS to the Corona 19 virus during a live broadcast, the British BBC reported on the 27th.

The BBC reported that Matthias Matushke, the host of the German radio broadcast’Bayern 3′, is being criticized for making racist remarks while criticizing BTS’ recent’MTV Unplugged’ performance on the night before.

Recently, BTS unveiled the cover stage of’Fix You’, one of the songs that represent the British band Coldplay. It was a song containing a message of healing and comfort.

Radio host Matushke evaluated BTS’s MTV unplugged appearance as “contradictory” and accused him of having a cover stage for’Fix You’ as “blasphemy.” Furthermore, he rallied, saying, “The unpleasant people will have to go on vacation to North Korea for the next 20 years.”

In particular, he compared BTS to the coronavirus and degraded it as “a bad virus that I want a vaccine to come out quickly.”

The BBC analyzed that this incident occurred amid increasing anti-Asian sentiment and racist attacks since the start of the corona pandemic.

When this fact became known, BTS fans criticized Matushke’s remarks as racist by posting hashtags such as’#RassismusBeiBayern3′ and’#Bayern3Racist’ on social media.

As fans stood up, Matushke said that he had no intention of racially insulting, and apologized, saying, “It is completely wrong to connect BTS and Corona 19.” The station also issued a statement and apologized instead, saying, “The host chose the wrong word.”
