The city of Busan refuted the claim of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport that the budget for the construction of the new airport on Gadeok Island was 28 trillion won.

The city of Busan issued a counter-data on the 25th and insisted that the contents of the report submitted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport to a member of the National Assembly’s National Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee earlier this month were obviously false.

In this report, military facilities and domestic facilities must also be constructed to make Gadeokdo’s new airport a’Southeastern gateway airport’, and in this case, the project cost will increase significantly from 7.5 trillion won to 28 trillion won.

The city of Busan refuted the assertion of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport that if the new airport on Gadeokdo Island includes the relocation of the airport to the military, the project operator donates a replacement facility and the Ministry of Defense transfers the discarded property.

He added that Gimhae-gun airport is a strategic military base (K-1) that cannot be relocated in consideration of the situation on the Korean peninsula such as US military strategic material litigation.

The city of Busan also said that the position of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport was contradictory.

The project cost for the construction of the new airport on Gadeokdo Island, including two runways, was 9,800 billion won (7,800 billion won for one runway) under the Lee Myung-bak administration’s service (Runway 1), and 1.02 trillion won (runway 1) under the Park Geun-hye administration (ADPi). In this case, it was estimated to be 7.5 trillion won).

The city asked how to understand the construction cost calculated by the past government service if the 28 trillion won construction cost for the new airport on Gadeok Island claimed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport was true.

An official from Busan City said, “The project cost of Gadeokdo New Airport, which constructs one runway, is 7.540 billion won, and there are no missing expenses by applying the project cost estimation method of the Gimhae New Airport Basic Plan.”

The city of Busan said that the airspace overlap problem discussed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport in the refuted data can be solved by adjusting the airspace, separating the flight path from the body factory owner (aircraft landing waiting area), and the concern of differential settlement with a proven construction method.

In addition, 138 members of the Democratic Party and 15 members of the National Assembly members of the National Assembly passed the special bill for the construction of Gaduk New Airport, initiated in November last year, passed the Subcommittee on Transportation by the National Land Transportation Commission on the 19th, and is set to pass by the National Assembly Judiciary Committee and the plenary session on the 25th and 26th.
